Mainstream rapper DMX has never shied away from sharing his Christian faith. In a recent social media clip he is heard advising reality star Audra The Rapper to give generously to others and God will give back.
“If you give just because you’re able to give, God will give back,” DMX told Audra, star of Oxygen Network’s hit series “Sisterhood of Hip Hop.”
He advised the young rapper to never give anything with the intention of getting something back.
“Do the right thing, for the right reason, at the right time and that is rewarding within itself,” he added.
“People think giving is an unselfish act, giving is a totally selfish act, because when you give to somebody and know you gave them just what they needed, the feeling of joy that you get you can’t buy that.”
The New York native, now with a captive audience, repeated, “Do the right thing, for the right reason, at the right time.”
When he was done with his inspirational talk, someone in the crowd yelled the word, “Enlighten” and DMX shouted back, “Yes, that’s what I do!”
DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, has openly said that he wants to become a pastor. In a video posted on Facebook last year he stated that his dream of becoming a minister is slowly becoming a reality. The video showed the emcee behind a pulpit preaching about the miracle that is birthed from tragedy.
“If I wasn’t a threat to the devil he wouldn’t waste his time. If I wasn’t special to God, how would I know what He’s willing to do for me? We know what He’s able to do. The word says, ‘All things are possible through Christ who strengthens,’ Amen!” DMX exclaimed. “So we know what He’s able to do. How can you know what He’s willing to do until you’ve been placed in a situation where you need Him to do it for you? If you haven’t been somewhere where you need God to get you out of the situation, you wouldn’t know what He’s willing to do for you. We know what He’s able to do but we won’t know what He’s willing to do until we’re there.”
Those in attendance cheered as the Grammy award winner passionately exhorted:
